In the beginning...

Oi vay!!!  Yes, I said it and even though I'm not Jewish, it's seems like the appropriate expression for right here and right now.  Starting a food/travel blog was MUCH more work than I anticipated and sparked much less interest from the "loyal" lovers of my cooking than I had hoped. Whew!!!  Okay...rant complete!!!

If you know me, you know starting this blog with a little soapboxing is just what the doctor ordered.  Yes, I've become quite famous for it over the years or maybe I should write "infamous". ;) Therefore, I apologize in advance for the occasional high horse I might climb on; yet it can be entertaining.  Like my good friend +Cristie Campbell used to say to me, "Love you! Love your show!"

The inspiration for this blog came from 40 years of chasing the dollar with little to no real personal satisfaction.  I've finally decided to do what I love...food and travel (of course, wine too! Fine food without wine...is no food at all in my opinion). I love to cook (thanks Julia), I love to eat (thanks Ma Carter) and my favorite thing of all is doing it in a new, fabulous locale to which I had never been before (thanks God for the wanderlust)! With that in mind...WELCOME TO FUSSY, FICKLE FOODIE!!!

In the pursuit of originality, I want this blog to have a multi-faceted approach to food and travel rather than an ongoing post of what I'm cooking today.  We'll talk about that, of course, but also the best restaurants around the world, their menus and even interviews with the creative chefs whose talents give rise to that standing.  We'll post lotsa pics not only of the food, but the places where they're eaten and cooked.  Sometimes, we might just talk about travel, but for me food and travel go hand in hand.  And finally, we might even get to take an amazing adventure together in the near future...

I have seven items remaining on my bucketlist and I'm getting to check one off on my birthday this year which also happens to be Easter!  I am heading to Europe for a couple weeks.  I'll be traveling to Holland to see the tulips in bloom (Bucketlist item! Check!!! Six to go...), Belgium and all over France (especially Bordeaux).  However, the highlight of the trip will be my interview at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris(#1 item on the Bucketlist)!!!  Although I have no aspiration to become a professional chef, it has always been a dream of mine to live in Paris for a couple years while attending and graduating from LCB-Paris.

So, the time has come to take the first steps to making this happen AND you'll get to go through the school with me! I'm more excited about this than anything I've done or any place I've been! French lessons in full swing.  So tune in for more updates on the trip and we'll have a great time together for years to come!

Signature valediction coming,

Shayne O.

P.S.  I love quotes, too.  I draw inspiration, humor and much thougtful provocation. Some are authors, presidents, historians, civil rights leaders and The Bible. There will always be one at the end.  Enjoy!
